September 24: Extra sodas in the cooler

To turning all situations into a party  …

The details of where you are- nah, you don’t need money for this kind of trip. a farmer taps his cigarette out the window of an old Ford, bracing the engine in hopes it starts on green. A dad puts on a show for his van of kids crying kids, curious as to when his sportscar got so big. The young driver blushes as she hits the curb behind you and the veteran honks from three cars back to teach her a lesson. A mother cruises by as she drives her mom home from the doctor’s office, neutral in her smile and wondering where the time has gone. Why would we ever get out of this traffic? The city is throwing a party on the freeway and everyone is already here. No passports or motels necessary; it’s a free stay at hotel highway.

September 22: Venti black coffee, no room please

To the next new city…

When you move to a new city, you quickly pull out your Raybans as you drop your dad off at the airport and attempt to block a little rain.  An Early Morning of moving in old sweatshirts, new work blouses, your favorite levi jeans and a couple pairs of vintage heels, ends with an evening drive back to what the post office would now consider your new home. You aren’t quite sure how to map out the space you’ve just landed, And that’s when the world starts to pay attention. The beauty of naivety is seen in the unknown parameters. Stay safe and you’ll survive; weave differently and this place will never be the same.
